The Lane Tech Science Department strives to promote scientific literacy by engaging students in challenging and meaningful hands-on activities and inquiry-based laboratory investigations. Through the integration of science content with authentic activities and investigations, students are better able to apply and build upon learned knowledge and skills, which will prepare them for post-secondary education and beyond.

Lane Tech students must take 4 years of science, which includes core classes in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Students are also able to choose from over 25 science electives and Advanced Placement offerings including Aquaponics, Engineering Design, Organic Chemistry, and Robotics, which is the largest selection of science course offerings in the Chicagoland area.

**AP Science electives include AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Environmental Science, AP Physics 1 & 2, and AP Physics C: Electricity & Magnetism and Mechanics. All AP classes are double period except for AP Environmental Science. (AP Physics can be taken as a single period class if AP Physics 1 is taken by itself. Students can also take AP Physics 1 & 2 as a double period class.)

The Alpha Honors STEM program is a specialized STEM major, in which students have a unique curriculum focusing specifically on the STEM fields.

Please note: Alpha STEM Honors courses are not labeled as ALPHA in the course catalog, however students will be placed into ALPHA sections (does not include 4th year science elective course) when class schedules are created.

***Alpha students are required to take a science elective their Sophomore year. Students should take AP Environmental Science.  Other courses may be accepted with approval by Mrs. Hildebrandt if the course relates to students science fair project.

Academic Center students have a specialized high school curriculum starting their 7th grade year. If you currently or previously attended an Academic Center, please refer to the sequence below that best matches your Academic Center’s curriculum. Please note that the Lane Tech graduation requirement is 4 science courses.
