What’s going on in the wild world of CS lately…
One of our top teachers in the department, Mrs. Roscoe, recently won a well deserved award for “Excellence in CS Teaching” from the CSTA (Computer Science Teachers Association). Our Codelab team, led by Mr. Berg, competed at the Procom 5.0 coding competition and our two teams placed 11th and 17th out of 38 competing teams. Our Autonomous Vehicle Team, which is led by Mr. Kim, Mr. Vergara and Ms. Langchung, is getting ready to compete in two major competitions, Botball and the Rose Hulman Autonomous Challenge. Our Media Computation classes are gearing up for the 5th annual Media Comp Mix Off in which students will compete for the best programmed song of the year (think the Voice without singing). Our Artificial Intelligence classes are hard at work programming a prediction of movie reviews based on thousands of previously written reviews. The Innovation and Creation Lab courses completed the most successful LTMaker Bazaar to date with 45% higher sales profits than last year! Our Microarchitecture students just completed designing and building simulated RAM chips. Our Girls Who Code team is busy preparing for two competitions and has been learning more about circuits and electronics. Our Physical Computing course recently finished the first annual super collaboration with Ms. Custodio’s Sculpture course, tentatively titled, “Interactive Sculpture Installations v1.0”. It was a blast!
In the wake of registration, our department has released short videos to help students to peek inside our courses. Check them out here: https://sites.google.com/cps.edu/lanetechcompsci/courses
