Admissions

Incoming Freshmen

Lane Tech College Prep High School is a selective enrollment school.  Each year approximately 1,200 freshmen are selected from more than 13,000 applicants. Students are encouraged to work with their elementary school counselor throughout the application process.

Seats for selective enrollment programs are filled based on total points. Programs have minimum point requirements to be eligible for selection and the waitlist. (See last year’s Point Total Documents–the minimum point totals are the lowest scores students had that were offered a seat in a program during the initial selection process.) An applicant’s total points is comprised of:

  • 50% from student’s final 7th grade grades from the core subjects: Math, Reading, Science and Social Science on official transcript. (All grade discrepancies must be addressed before the application deadline)
  • 50% from the CPS HSAT results

All students must apply to Lane Tech, as well as any other CPS high school, using the website apply.cps.edu.  The high school application process opens September 23rd, 2025 and closes November 14th, 2025.  Click here for additional information on the high school application process.

Test Dates

Students who attend CPS schools will take the High School Admissions Test at their school on Wednesday, October 8th, 2025.  Students who do not attend CPS schools will need to sign up for an October test date by logging into their account at apply.cps.edu.

Students must sign up for a test date at www.go.cps.edu, or test at their school.  Walk-ins will not be eligible to take the exam.

Open House

The annual Lane Tech open house will be held on Saturday, November 1st.  The Academic Center open house is from 9-11 am, and is for students in 5th and 6th grade who are interested in attending our Academic Center. A presentation is scheduled for 9:15 am, followed by student guided tours.

The high school open house is from 12:00-3:00 pm, and is for any student interested in attending Lane Tech high school.  Interested students and parents will receive an informational booklet, sit for performances and a brief presentation from the principal, and will then go on a guided tour of the building where they can speak with teachers, counselors, coaches, parents, and other Lane Tech staff. Presentations are scheduled every half hour from 12 to 2:30 pm. Doors close at 2:35.

Parking in the Lane Tech lot is limited. Taking public transportation is encouraged.

A virtual open house is also posted here. We look forward to seeing you at Open House 2025!
