Admissions

The Lane Tech Academic Center is an accelerated programs for high-achieving students. Since academic centers are housed in high schools, they allow students to take high school-level courses in English, Social Studies, Science, Mathematics, World Language, Music, or Art. The Academic Center is a two year program, and students must apply to LTAC in 6th grade in order to be admitted to grades 7 and 8. Any student who has a minimum GPA of 2.5 can submit an application for an Academic Center. Students use the GoCPS site beginning in September of their 6th grade year to apply to the Academic Center. The deadline to apply is typically mid-December. Click here for full information about Academic Centers. Visit go.cps.edu during the fall of a student’s sixth grade year in order to apply.

Scoring Overview (600 Points Total)
The application scoring system for Academic Centers is made up of two parts:

  1. Academic Center Entrance Exam (50% of the total- 300 points)
  2. Previous year’s final grades for core subjects (50% of the total- 300 points)

Open House

The annual Lane Tech open house will be held on Saturday, October 29th.  The Academic Center open house is from 9-11 am, and is for students in 5th and 6th grade who are interested in attending our Academic Center. Interested students and parents will receive an informational booklet, sit for performances and a brief presentation from the principal, and will then go on a guided tour of the building where they can speak with teachers, counselors, coaches, parents, and other Lane Tech staff.

Parking in the Lane Tech lot is limited. Taking public transportation is encouraged.

Meet & Greet

Newly accepted students are invited to attend a Meet and Greet on Tuesday May 10, 2022 from 5pm-7pm. Please enter through Door M off of the parking lot and security will guide you to the Auditorium for a presentation.

Students and families will hear a presentation from the Academic Center Director. Students and families will be able to meet LTAC teachers and get questions answered by current and former LTAC students.

Please enroll by filling out our online enrollment form by Friday, May 13th.

CPS Transportation

Students attending Academic Centers are eligible for school bus services. Please review CPS Transportation Information.

If you would like to receive CPS transportation services, please complete the Student Transportation Services “White Form” (ENGLISH, SPANISH), scan it and email it back to me at culmer@cps.edu by Wednesday May 18, 2022.

Then complete the Lane Tech Transportation Form indicating your stop choices by Wednesday May 18, 2022.


Upcoming Events for Incoming Students

Music Auditions – Monday & Tuesday, May 3-4 (or virtual)

Students who selected a music performance class for their elective, such as band, chorus, piano, or orchestra, and have music experience are encouraged to audition to be placed in an advanced performance class. The music department will hold auditions on May 3rd and 4th from 3:30-5:30 pm. Please contact the appropriate director to schedule your interview. If you are unable to make it on May 3 or 4, you may also contact the director to schedule a virtual audition. Instructions for virtual auditions are included for each performance class. Language Placement Exam – Saturday, May 7, 2022

Students should only take a language placement exam if they have prior instruction in Arabic, German, Mandarin, or Spanish and would like to be placed in a high school level 2 course or higher as a seventh grader. Students who fit this qualification will take a language exam online and schedule a 10 minute oral session with two Lane Tech teachers. Trivia Night – Thursday May 12, 2022

Test your knowledge by going head to head with other incoming students at our annual trivia night on Thursday, May 12 from 5-7 pm in the student cafeteria. This event is for incoming students and their upper class mentors only. Students will be on teams of up to six students and will compete for the honor of Freshman Trivia Champion! The Mentors will be on hand to help facilitate this event.

Math Placement Exam – Monday June 13, 2022 (in the morning) – more details coming soon!

Math placement exam will take place online at some point in the upcoming weeks. Incoming LTAC students may choose to take a math basic skills exam for placement into Pre-Algebra or Algebra. Calculators are not allowed. All details will be updated here on the website and emails sent when we have them. If a student does not wish to take the placement exam, they will be taking Pre-Algebra.

LTAC Connections- June 20-June 23, 2022 8:30-11:30am

LTAC Connections is like LTAC Camp and is a great opportunity for students to get to know each other, become familiar with the school building, and HAVE FUN!! Activities include tours of the school and campus, fun team building games, an academic overview so that students feel prepared for the upcoming year, an opportunity to explore the many classes and activities that Lane Tech has to offer, and a party in the Memorial Garden to celebrate the end of a fun week.

LTAC Orientation Day and Quickstart Registration – mid August

Orientation is a one day event where students will meet their upper class mentors, follow a class schedule, and tour the school. The day will be filled with activities that will enable students to become more familiar and comfortable with Lane and their fellow classmates. This will likely take place in the afternoon/evening the week of August 15th.

Quickstart Registration is where students pay fees, get their textbooks, locker numbers, PE uniforms, locks, get yearbook photos taken, etc. Additional information will be posted once it is available.


Information for Incoming LTAC Students

Medical Forms

All incoming seventh graders are required to submit a physical examination form for the 2022-23 school year. The physical must include a current T-DAP vaccination, 2 doses of MMR and Varicella, and 3 doses of Hepatitis. Please make a copy of your child’s physical for your records. Physicals must take place July 1, 2023* or later and are due at Quick Start. Click here to access a copy of the CPS required physical form.

*Some schools have required students to have a completed physical before the end of the school year. Physicals are good for one year. At the time of Quick Start, students who have had a physical within the year can submit the existing physical. Students should then submit an updated physical when the current physical expires.

Shadow Days

Unfortunately, Lane does not offer shadow days given the amount of requests we receive. We simply do not have the capacity to accommodate all students. Accepted students will be invited to visit Lane one more time before making their selection.
