Fritz Pollard Field at Lane Stadium

Fritz Pollard Field at Lane Stadium

The Lane Tech Alumni Association has worked with the Lane Tech Athletic Department, and Lane Tech Administration to have the field at Lane Stadium named Fritz Pollard Field at Lane Stadium to honor Lane Tech alum (C/O 1912) Fritz Pollard for his outstanding achievements and career. Fritz Pollard was a three-sport athlete at Lane and then attended Brown University where he dominated on the gridiron before an unprecedented career in the NFL. He was the first African-American to play in the Rose Bowl, one of the first African-American athletes to play in pro football, the first African-American to play quarterback in pro football, and the first African-American to coach in pro football. In 2005 he was inducted into the NFL Football Hall of Fame.

We are thrilled to honor his legacy with the dedication of the field at Lane Stadium. Fritz Pollard defined what it means to represent the “School of Champions” both on and off the playing field.
