Lane Student Payman Rajaie Turns His Refugee Experience into a Mission to Inspire Change

17-year-old Lane Tech High School student and Afghan refugee Payman Rajaie has been awarded the 2025 American Red Cross Hero for Global Citizenship, becoming the youngest recipient of this prestigious award. His recognition stems from his exceptional volunteer work with the Red Cross, including his leadership in the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Youth Action Campaign and his founding of a Red Cross club at Lane Tech. Inspired by his personal experiences with conflict and displacement, Payman is a dedicated advocate for refugees and works to educate his peers on the laws governing armed conflict.
