Local School Council members are elected every two years by parents, community members, and school staff. Members serve two-year terms, with the exception of student representatives, who serve one-year terms. Interested candidates must complete several application forms.
This Spring, schools across Chicago will conduct an election in which parents, community members, students and staff will have the opportunity to run and vote for positions on Local School Councils. If you’re interested in getting more involved with your school, we encourage you to consider running in your school’s LSC election.
Who: Parents, community members, students, principals and school staff may all serve on LSCs. Criteria for eligibility depends on member type.
When: To run in an LSC election, you must submit the application materials listed below by February 8, 2024. Election day for elementary schools is April 10, 2024 and election day for high schools is April 11, 2024. New two-year terms of office Beginning July 1, 2024. Application Instructions
1. Check Your Eligibility
Parents, community members, students, principals and school staff may all serve on LSCs. Criteria for eligibility depends on member type.
Parent member candidates must have a child enrolled in the school
Community member candidates must reside within the school’s attendance area or voting district (for city-wide enrollment schools)
School staff member candidates must be assigned to perform a majority of their work duties at the school.

2. Find Your LSC
View the 2024 LSC Election Map to find seats that you are eligible to run for in the upcoming election. The map will display school boundaries to help you locate schools where you may be eligible to serve. You must live within a school’s attendance boundary to apply for LSC membership as a community member. You may apply for LSC membership as a parent at the school your child attends.
3. Complete the Nomination Forms
Once you have identified an LSC election that you are eligible to run in, complete the nomination forms listed below. Please note which forms are required and optional for your candidate member type (parent and community candidate, student candidate, staff candidate).
