What We Offer

The arts are vital to an education that prepares students to solve 21st Century problems with innovation and ingenuity. At Lane, we believe all students are artists, and each has important ideas to share with the world. To help students express their unique vision, we offer an incredible array of opportunities and experiences in the visual arts. Lane courses range from digital design to fiber arts, painting to wheel throwing, and traditional to contemporary arts. All Lane students can take elective art courses where they will find ways to express their creativity even if they have little or no prior experience making art. In addition, students can major in art, taking a four-year sequence that leads to a deep and well-rounded artistic training, the development of a portfolio and a final art exhibition.

Lane’s art students participate in a rich and celebrated tradition of excellence. Lane Tech was awarded the College Board’s 2012 Midwestern Regional and the National Award for Excellence and Innovation in the Arts for its exemplary artistic programming. Every year our students are showcased in the Chicago All-City Arts Exhibit, the National Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, the IHSAE Exhibition and the Latino Art Beat Competition. Our students’ work has been featured in galleries around Chicago, on the Chicago City Sticker, and even in the private gallery of actor and collector Brad Pitt.

Community Connections

Lane’s talented art students have forged valuable connections with the community around them. Throughout the year, visiting artists, parents and alumni help strengthen and support our programs through classroom visits and workshops. We’re especially grateful to the colleges and foundations that have shown their support by awarding hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships to our students every year for their artistic excellence.
